CONTEMPORARY DANCE WORKSHOP: THE ADAPTABLE BODY Instructor: Jason Martin / Guest Instructor at the Hessian State Ballet Description This course aims to foster participants’ adaptability by developing a keen sense of body awareness. Through continuous exploration, we will be guided to connect with every part of the body, thereby developing greater sensitivity and flexibility. By combining somatic and dance practices, every movement has its origin and its purpose. In this way, we learn to make the most of our physical potential. By engaging with different movement systems, participants are encouraged to continually challenge themselves and transition from one state to another. In the process, we play with intensity, speed, and rhythm, reacting spontaneously to what emerges in the moment. This approach allows us to move beyond familiar movement patterns and discover new ways of moving, perceiving, and developing movement. At the end of the workshop, these principles are applied in practice by developing a choreographic phrase or learning a piece from the ensemble’s repertoire. Short Biography Jason Martin began his career as a dancer and performer with some of Canada’s most renowned dance companies, including Compagnie Marie Chouinard, Daniel Léveillé Danse, The Holy Body Tattoo, and Compagnie Dave St-Pierre. In 2017, he founded ENTITEY / Jason Martin. Since then, his works have been presented more than 100 times in 20 countries across four continents and have received several international awards. As a choreographer and educator, Martin collaborates internationally with artists, dance companies, and institutions. His collaborations include, among others, Skånes Dansteater (Sweden), b12 (Germany), the Wrocław Opera Ballet (Poland), the Taller Coreográfico de la UNAM (Mexico), the Ballet Metropolitano de Medellín (Colombia), the Institute of the Arts Barcelona (Spain), the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal (Canada), and the Taipei National University of the Arts (Taiwan). In October 2026, she will teach the dancers of the Hessian State Ballet for two weeks as a guest instructor.
