Cláudia Sofia Trio in Darmstadt

Description

Cláudia Sofia is a young singer and guitarist from Mindelo (Cape Verde), the hometown of the legendary Cesária Évora and a breeding ground for a multitude of internationally renowned musicians. As early as the fall of 2024 and 2025, the Cláudia Sofia Trio completed two highly acclaimed tours with concerts in Portugal, Germany, Austria, and Luxembourg, enchanting audiences with her crystal-clear voice, fantastic original songs, and an outstanding backing band featuring Lucio Vieira on bass and Markus Leukel on drums. In 2025, the label “o-tone music” released her first CD (consisting exclusively of original compositions) titled “mas um melodia.” Cláudia’s songs are deeply rooted in the musical tradition of her Cape Verdean homeland, yet at the same time, an openness to elements from Brazilian and European-American musical cultures, even extending to classical music, is unmistakable. She sings about life and love on the archipelago off the coast of West Africa, where a unique Creole culture has developed over the past 500 years. Drummer Markus Leukel, originally from Gießen, has been living in Cape Verde since 2010 and has previously performed here with us as part of various projects featuring musicians from these islands. Not least, the successful and likable performance of the soccer team at the World Cup this summer has once again raised the country’s profile.
