“13 Kuukautta” means “13 months” in Finnish. It is a musical landscape that breaks free from everyday structures and aims to create its own space-time continuum. The two met for the first time in Berlin in 2022, more or less by chance, and began developing compositions together. The music they created for this production is collaborative, unique, and defies musical categorization. The album was recorded in Berlin in 2023 and released in the spring of 2025. Trombonist Konrad “Conny” Bauer was born in Halle in 1943 and was one of the most successful jazz musicians in the GDR starting in the 1970s. In 1973, Bauer co-founded the legendary “Zentralquartett” (with Ulrich Gumpert, Ernst-Ludwig Petrowsky, and Baby Sommer). Together with his brother Johannes (also a trombonist), who passed away in 2016, Conny played in the equally legendary band “Doppelmoppel” with the two guitarists Uwe Kropinski and Joe Sachse. [Small photo: Georg Krause] Kalle Kalima (*1973) is one of the most interesting Finnish representatives of the European jazz scene. Born in Helsinki and living in Berlin, he blends elements of rock and improvised music, always with a touch of humor. Together with Oliver Potratz and Oliver Steidle, Kalle forms the project “Klima Kalima.” Kalle Kalima has performed with Jason Moran, Jim Black, Greg Cohen, Anthony Braxton, Marc Ducret, Jimi Tenor, Tony Allen, and Tomasz Stanko, among others. Over the years, he has been our guest several times with some of his projects.
