Nils Landgren Funk Unit in Darmstadt

Description

We’re celebrating over 30 years of success, the hottest version of European funk comes from Sweden. When Nils Landgren launched his Funk Unit in 1994, many people asked: Who needs funk from Sweden? Today, more than 30 years, 13 albums, and countless concerts later, no one asks that anymore. Because the answer is clear: If you want to hear the hottest European take on this music, which is inextricably linked to soul, rhythm and blues, and jazz, there’s no getting around this band. Even the pioneers, godfathers, and greats of the scene have been won over: whether it’s James Brown’s musical masterminds Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley, or Ray Parker Jr. and Joe Sample from the Crusaders, they’ve all performed with the Funk Unit. And even after more than 30 years, the mission isn’t over. The combo led by “Mr. Redhorn” will showcase its spirit, wealth of ideas and tempo, and unbridled joy of playing on Tuesday, November 3, at the Centralstation.
