Between Fame and Glory Lies the Night (World Premiere) in Darmstadt

Description

The orange dust of the sand, the green of the grass, the deep blue of the hard court. These are the colors of tennis courts all over the world. Here you can hear the players’ heavy breathing, the thud of the balls, and the murmur of the crowd. Here, absolute certainty of victory clashes with gnawing self-doubt; anger and despair collide with the greatest euphoria. In her autobiographical stories, former professional tennis player Andrea Petković takes us, with dedication, humor, and unflinching honesty, into this world that was hers for so long. Born in 1987 in what is now Bosnia, she moved to Darmstadt with her family at the age of six months. And this is also where her tennis career begins, a career that would eventually take her into the top ten of the world rankings and into the spotlight on the courts in Paris, Melbourne, New York, and back to Darmstadt. But before that and in between come unauthorized trips to concerts, loneliness in loveless hotel rooms, fleeting bonds with rivals, ambition, lifelong friendships, travel and upheaval, injuries, setbacks, and the constant pressure on women’s bodies in competitive sports. With “Between Fame and Honor Lies the Night,” the stage of the Kleines Haus comes alive with a playful collage of a life, uncontrollable and unexpected, full of love for literature and music. And, of course, for tennis, in all its uniqueness and beauty.
