A small baroque garden beside the palace that holds the porcelain collection
The story
The brick walls here were a piece of technology. Gardeners tied peaches, apricots and even figs flat against them so the masonry could store the day's heat and release it overnight, which brought southern fruit weeks ahead of anything else growing around Darmstadt. That turned this small plot into a prestige larder for the prince's table, and the palace next door still shows the matching taste in its porcelain.
