The story
The family that ruled from here reached a long way. Princess Alice, a daughter of Queen Victoria, married into it and lived in Darmstadt, and her daughter Alix grew up here before becoming Alexandra Feodorovna, the last empress of Russia. That connection is why a Russian chapel stands on Mathildenhöhe, a short walk away.
