darmstadtium in Darmstadt

The darmstadtium is Darmstadt's science and congress centre, right in the city centre opposite the Residenzschloss and next to TU Darmstadt. Designed by the Viennese architect Talik Chalabi, it opened in December 2007 and is named after the chemical element darmstadtium, which was discovered in Darmstadt. Besides congresses it hosts receptions, concerts and cultural events. Parts of the medieval city wall can be seen in the foyer, and the building is barrier-free.
