Count City Big Band

The Count City Big Band has been in existence for more than 40 years and was originally the nucleus of the Gräfenhausen Music Association. Under the leadership of Werner Schard, it quickly became well-known in the Darmstadt area and beyond. While the program initially featured light pieces, the band has evolved into a true jazz ensemble over the past few years. The band has performed well over 100 times both in Germany and abroad since its founding. Its musical development has been shaped time and again by various professional musicians at the conductor’s podium. The goal is to thrill the audience with high-quality jazz music. Just come to a concert and see for yourself. Or give a listen to the CD the musicians produced to mark their 25th anniversary. Incidentally, the band’s name is their own creation and a tribute to their hometown of Gräfenhausen. After all, this great sound comes from the city where the counts (Grafen in German) reside—hence “Count City.” Anyone who’d like to give swing or jazz rhythms a try is welcome to join the Count City Big Band.
