Bronze figures from a Darmstadt dialect comedy, and you are meant to move them
The story
It has not been a fountain since 1996. When the Luisencenter was refurbished the sculpture was taken down, sent back to its maker in Aachen and re-erected here without water, and Stirnberg swapped the metal spiral at its centre for a bronze stage curtain. What survived the move is the thing people actually come for: the joints still work, so the figures are arranged and rearranged all day by whoever walks past.
