The story
Ludwig VIII ran his hunts from here like a piece of clockwork. Horn signals travelled along the star-shaped rides so riders could work out where the hounds were and cut them off. Look at a map of the forest today and the stars are still there, a compass rose laid out not for travellers but for the chase.
